Ward panel meetings are informal quarterly meetings where our safer neighbourhood police team, the council and residents from the South of the Borough neighbourhood come together to discuss issues in our area, share information and find solutions. Meetings include a report of local crime statistics and information on recent incidents and usually take place at the Safari Hotel, Chessington World of Adventures, Leatherhead Road, Chessington KT9 2NE.
CDRA attended the Police Ward Panel meeting held at the Safari Hotel, Chessington World of Adventures on 22nd July 2025. Here’s what was reported and what our Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) will be focussing on for the next quarter.
The team was pleased to report that crimes in Chessington, Hook and Malden Rushett have been low during the quarter, May-July 2025. The most frequent crime was theft from motor vehicles (4), theft of motor vehicles (9), burglaries (3) and drug offences (1). This is similar type of crimes that have been reported in previous quarters.
The following was reported as key activities undertaken by the SNT:

Dangerous dog warrant executed, and male charged for having a dog dangerously out of control. Dog removed from the streets.

Investigation and evidence gathering leading to a female being charged for harassment.

Cross border operation with Surrey Police targeting motor vehicles offences.

Uniformed and plain clothes patrols targeting theft from motor vehicles in the area.

Worked with the dog unit and carried out three vehicle pursuits in the Chessington area.

Arrests made by the team for rape and sexual harassment.
The team has also been involved in the following events:

Officers from Chessington Safer Neighbourhood Team and police cadets brought historic vehicles from the fleet museum to display them at Celebrate Chessington.

Careers Fair at Chessington School. · Officers attended a County Lines Lived Experiences talk during County Lines Intensification Week.

Collaboration with Surbiton SNT working with British Transport police.
It was also reported that the abstraction rate for the past quarter was 45%. Police abstraction rate is the amount of time the officers are unavailable for their regular duties. For our SNT this is usually due to being deployed elsewhere in the borough or in central London. This is the highest reported figure for some time.
Issues raised by residents attending the meeting included:
- Fly tipping of gas cannisters by young people (from antisocial behaviour / drug use) at Barwell.
- Speeding and noisy bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters.
The priorities for the forthcoming quarter will be:
- Theft of motor vehicles.
- Theft from motor vehicles.
- Vehicular related anti-social behaviour (including e-bikes and e-scooters).
CDRA attended the meeting held at the Safari Hotel, Chessington World of Adventures on 13th February 2025. Here’s what was reported and the focus for the police for the next quarter.
The Police were pleased to report that crimes in Chessington, Hook and Malden Rushett have been low during the last quarter. As in the previous quarter, the most frequent crime was theft from motor vehicles and theft of motor vehicles/motocycles, totalling nine offences. There were four drug offences and five burglaries.
The following was reported as key activities undertaken:

Resolved various shoplifting offences at Chessington Garden Centre and returned stolen goods.

Cleared the old Chessington golf course (off Garrison Lane) of motorbike anti-social behaviour, fences repaired to stop public trespass onto private land. Trespass notices have been installed.

Undertook a joint traffic operation with Surrey police teams has been undertaken to crack down on cross border issues.

Worked with Council licensing officers to ensure the hours of Victoria News were not extended to help anti-social behaviour in the area.

Recovered and returned various stolen motorcycles to owners.

Conducted a weapon sweep in Chessington Churchfields and removed any items found.
The team has also been involved in the following events:

Armistice Day events at St Paul’s and St Mary’s churches.

Hosted bike marking events.

Weapon sweeps in local green spaces.

Violence Against Women and Girls walks and talks.

Engagement with the Beavers.

Visit to King’s Centre nursery.
Issues raised by residents attending the meeting included:
- Drug dealing and drug use along Barwell Lane.
- Speeding outside the school on Church Lane.
- Parking on the pavement by KFC on North Parade.
- Misuse of disabled parking bays in Hook Parade – Councillor Lorraine Dunstone who was in attendance reported that this issue has been raised with Kingston Parking Enforcement Team and the Neighbourhood Manager.
The priorities for the forthcoming quarter will be:
- Theft of motor vehicles.
- Theft from motor vehicles.
- Anti-social behaviour (including vehicle related anti-social behaviour).
CDRA attended the meeting held at the Safari Hotel, Chessington World of Adventures on 15th October 2024. Here’s what was reported and the focus for the police for the next quarter.
The Police were pleased to report that crimes in Chessington, Hook and Malden Rushett have been low during the last quarter. The most frequent crime was motor vehicle theft. This includes motorcycles.
The following was reported as key activities undertaken:

Obtained a warrant for a dangerous dog offence on Chantry Road. Suspect has been charged.

Gave a member of the public a Community Protection Notice for riding their motorbike across open grounds, this included Tolworth Court Farm and Chessington Golf Course.

Continued with anti-social behaviour (ASB) resolutions by engaging with youths and others in relation to activities that may be perceived as ASB.

Continued patrolling around the wards, engaging with local residents.

Returned numerous stolen vehicles to their owners.

Arrested a male for a potential knife assault on his partner.
The team has also been involved in the following events:

Attended York Way Community Day.

Helped at bike marking events.

Carried out weapons sweeps.

Held a Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) event at Chessington Garden Centre to advise women and girls on how to look after themselves and not get themselves into dangerous or awkward situations.

Organised a VAWG Walk and Talk with women and girls.

Attended a Summer event at a local nursery.

Engaged with Girl Guides.
As most crimes were motor vehicle related in the last quarter, the priorities for the forthcoming quarter will be:
- Theft of motor vehicles.
- Theft from motor vehicles.
- Anti-social behaviour, specifically two-wheel enabled.
