Make friends, build skills, make a difference
At a recent Safer Neighbourhood Committee meeting, it was revealed that Kingston’s Volunteer Police Cadet numbers have fallen from around 100 to just 30. That means there’s now a brilliant opportunity for young people to step forward, try something new and gain experiences that genuinely build confidence, skills and independence.
The Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC) is open to 13–18‑year‑olds and offers a brilliant mix of adventure, learning and community action. It’s a nationally recognised uniformed organisation that focuses on good citizenship, confidence‑building and teamwork – not on recruiting future police officers.
Cadets get to take part in a huge range of activities, including:
-
Learning how British policing works.
-
First aid, crime prevention and community safety skills.
-
Visits to specialist police units — from control rooms to mounted, dog and firearms teams.
-
Team‑building challenges, sports and social events.
-
Opportunities to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award and lead community projects.
Being a cadet means gaining real‑world skills, building confidence and leadership, and making a positive impact in your local area. It’s also a great way to make new friends and explore whether a future in public service might be right for you.
If you’re looking for something exciting, meaningful and fun to be part of, Kingston’s Volunteer Police Cadets would love to welcome you.
