At the Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust Board Meeting on 9th July 2026, CDRA heard a fascinating update on robotic surgery from Mr Enyi Ofo, Consultant in Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT).
A leading specialist in robotic and minimally invasive surgery
Mr Ofo is a highly experienced head and neck, thyroid and parathyroid surgeon, practising at St George’s University Hospital and Kingston Hospital, as well as in independent practice across London. With more than 11 years as a consultant, he treats both adult and paediatric ENT conditions, including thyroid and parathyroid disease, salivary gland disorders, head and neck lumps, and voice and swallowing problems.
He performs over 100 thyroid and parathyroid operations each year and is recognised nationally for developing innovative techniques that improve patient outcomes and reduce the impact of surgery.
A UK pioneer in ‘scarless’ robotic surgery
Mr Ofo is the UK’s most experienced surgeon in the “scarless” Transoral Robotic Thyroidectomy and Parathyroidectomy Vestibular Approach (TORTVA and TORPVA). He was the first surgeon in the country to develop and perform this technique, which avoids a neck incision by operating through the mouth.
He has since established one of the UK’s leading transoral robotic thyroid surgery programmes and now trains and mentors surgeons from across the UK and overseas, helping other hospitals introduce this advanced approach.
A Kingston Hospital first
Mr Ofo also pioneered the UK’s first ENT led outpatient thermal ablation service for benign thyroid nodules, based at Kingston Hospital. This minimally invasive treatment offers selected patients an alternative to traditional surgery, avoiding a neck scar and allowing a much quicker recovery.
During the meeting, he shared a video demonstrating robotic surgery in action, showing how precision technology is transforming patient care.
