Got something broken at home? Don’t bin it – fix it! Take it to Transition Town Kingston’s Repair Café. The café is in action on the first Saturday of each month at Kingston Library from 10:30am to 1pm, offering free repairs for broken household items – from frayed clothes to faulty gadgets.

It’s all about sustainability, skill-sharing, and keeping useful things out of landfill. Friendly volunteer fixers are on hand to help mend your belongings, while you learn a few tricks of the trade.

Booking a repair slot online is recommended – it’ll save you time (and the repairers) and avoid queues. Please read Guidance for Visitors before going along. This is where updates about what repairs the Repair Café can currently offer are posted. If they can’t fix your item, here’s their handy list of recommended repair shops and other places that may be able to help.

Transition Town Kingston’s Repair Café promotes repair as an alternative to throwing things away. It has been running in Kingston Library’s community room since February 2023.

Transition Town Kingston (TTK)

TTK is a local community group, formally constituted as an unincorporated organisation, and part of the international Transition movement. This movement seeks to raise awareness of the climate and ecological crises and to promote the transition towards a more sustainable, low-carbon future.

TTK’s purpose is to foster a resilient local community by:

  • Exploring alternatives to fossil fuel dependency.
  • Encouraging sustainable consumption and local food production.
  • Supporting practical, community-led initiatives.
  • Organising educational events and workshops.
  • Sharing ideas, skills, information, and relevant news.

Through these activities, TTK aims to empower individuals and groups to engage constructively with environmental challenges and contribute to a more sustainable Kingston.
